A HISTORY OF FOOD

A HISTORY OF FOOD is now available at the Learning Centre Reid.
Call No.641.3009 TOU

This classic work is an exploration and celebration of man's relationship with food from earliest times to the present day. Maguelonne Toussaint-Samat tells the story of cuisine and the social history of food, taking in fascinating, little-known byways along the journey. For instance, we learn that Aztecs enjoyed chocolate as a drink with chilli and honey; we discover the Iroquois origins of popcorn; we hear about the potential culinary and farming uses of lupin seeds. Toussaint-Samat looks at the transition from a vegetable-to an increasingly meat-based diet, as well as at the relationship between people and what they eat, between particular foods and social behaviour, and between dietary habits and methods of cooking.

Users have the opportunity to submit reports and information for inclusion in the portal.

A key feature of Sustainable Tourism Online is the Online Community which provides a platform for tourism professionals to identify appropriate new research, tools and knowledge and participate in ongoing discussions relating to sustainable tourism issues and challenges.

Sustainable Tourism Online comprises both public good information and commercial elements. In the public good area, industry-specific tools, knowledge and research will be made available free of charge to tourism planners, professionals, businesses and researchers.

Sustainable Tourism Online will be hosted and managed by EC3 Global. A Research and Intelligence Group will be established by EC3 Global to inform the further development of the portal. EC3 Global will identify and upload new public good content to the portal and monitor online community discussions. They will also use the portal to promote their products and services which were developed from STCRC research.
